Canada's Offset System for Greenhouse Gases

Launched June 2009, Canada is now uderway to creatign methodologies for its very own Cap-and-Trade. After a failed attempt at Kyoto Protocol, and after BC and Alberta had already created their own independent systems, Canada has finally made its own Federal system a law. By Fall, 2009 revisions will be made and by 2010 the first projects are expected. Check it out, this is a major business oportunity!

About the Club

The Alternative Energy Club (AEC) of UBC is a club for those interested in the prominent topic of alternative energy. Our club acts as an umbrella effectively giving our members institution status for us to pursue projects in a more credible manner. During our first meetings we will decide on what to focus on and then split it up amongst us based on interest. This club will then have smaller groups working on different projects such as electric mobility vehicles, biofuels, fuel cells, geothermal, and/or etc..Projects will be both university based in respects to competitions(EWB-DSW etc..), collaboration (Common Energy, Go beyond, BCCCN etc..), funding(IPF etc..), space usage(SUB), and support from UBC(Alternative Energy Program, Climate Action Team, Sustainability office), as well as public and private in respects of competitions, funding, collaborations etc.. Speakers will be coming in select meetings when quorum is present, and social events will also be happening.

Mission statement:

To inspire and encourage student involvement in the creation of alternative energy endeavours.
